"Hikikomori Days" &
"Hikikomori Days Part 2 (Tokyo Yōkoso)"

Hikikomori (lit. "pulling away, being confined, i.e. "acute social withdrawal") is a Japanese term to refer to the phenomenon of reclusive individuals who have chosen to withdraw from social life. "Hikikomori Days" is a series of photograph-based works which consists of two parts. The first part is in black and white, and was created in Tilburg, it has a reclusive atmosphere. The second part is based on photographs I took during my visit to Tokyo in 2010. It is more colourful and outgoing.
